Governance and accountability

Chronicle of Living Artists is incorporated as a non-profit organisation and registered with the Internal Revenue Service under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

It is governed by a Board of Directors under adopted bylaws, with a conflict of interest policy and a documented compensation procedure.

Restricted gifts are held and accounted for against the programme named, and reported to the donor quarterly in summary and in full at twelve months. Census data and publications are owned by the organisation and released under open licence.

We manage our resources with the intention that the archive remains continuously available and publicly accessible over decades, rather than for the life of a single grant cycle.

Our annual financial statements, Form 990-PF and funder disclosure are published here on release. Enquiries from funders, auditors and journalists are answered directly: [email protected].

Conflicts and compensation

The organisation, its directors and its researchers hold no inventory, brokerage interest, commission arrangement or advisory relationship in any artist, estate, dealer or asset class under examination. Personal holdings are disclosed to the Board and trigger recusal from the related work.

All compensation, including that of founders and principal researchers, is approved by disinterested directors against external benchmarking and recorded in the minutes, with the interested party absent from the vote. Finances and funders are reported annually.
